During a scholarship interview in high school, Tricia Bohr’s
interviewer laughed when she told him she wanted to end world
hunger. While it may have sounded like j an overly-confident naïve
statement, there is some truth to it. Her hero is Dr. Norman
Borlaug, father of the Green Revolution.
Her interest in growing life began on a small dairy farm in Northern
Iowa. “My mother’s gardens coupled with my parents’ crops not only
helped feed us, but essentially, was much further reaching in
feeding the community, in feeding the world, than I could then
grasp,” she says.
Tricia graduated from Mount Mercy College in 2007 with a degree in
Biology, with Chemistry and Creative Writing minors. “I have
realized that helping to end world hunger is a grand thing that
needs to be solved by starting out simply,” she says. “The world not
only includes those far-reaching places, but those much closer to
home as well. And solutions rarely ever occur within one day. Every
action counts, not just the ones that get the praise in the end. I
continue to work toward my goal, despite the laughter.”
Her hobbies include reading
and planning her wedding. “This summer is filled with promise,” she
says, “and I cannot wait to embrace it.
