Abbe Hills Farm CSA near Mt. Vernon, Iowa, opened the 2013 season on Monday, June 3 and Thursday, June 6.  Shares are still available.  If you want to join, take off $17 for each week missed since the start.  Here is the 2013 CSA registration form.  Please print and mail to Laura to reserve your share.

Summer Jobs for Students

Abbe Hills Farm CSA, near Mt. Vernon, Iowa, has hired all of the workers we think we will need for the 2013 season.  However, you may still submit an application for the worker file.  If we get very busy, we may need to hire more.  Job announcements for college age workers and high school age workers explain the application process.

Laura Krouse
Laura Krouse is the owner of Abbe Hills Farm. She bought the 72-acre farm in 1988 from the Neal family of Mount Vernon. Laura grew up near Toddville and has undergraduate degrees in agronomy and agricultural business from Iowa State University, a graduate degree in agronomy from the University of Florida, and a teaching certificate from Cornell College. She worked for many years with migrant and seasonal farm workers in Immokalee, Florida, and taught in the biology department at Cornell College for 20 years. She is a Sunday school teacher at First Mennonite Church in Iowa City, and is a long-time commissioner of the Linn Soil and Water Conservation District. She also serves as a conservationist spokesperson for the Iowa Learning Farm, and on the board of the Southeast Linn Community Center, which is the home of our local food pantry. Laura speaks frequently on natural resource use, water quality, and the food system. She likes children, parties, beneficial insects, and really good food.
